It wasn’t all that long ago that Loudoun County and Fairfax County were mostly rural areas. It might be hard to believe, but before the population sprawl and development, our area used to be considered the country. Today, Loudoun is just as populated and congested as other counties areas outside of the District. Loudoun County is currently one of the fastest growing counties in the United States and is quickly becoming as populated and conjested as other counties around the beltway in the Washington, DC metro area. Winchester and Frederick County are also growing at an alarmingly fast rate, and the traffic on the highway and interstate is concrete proof of this population growth.
As the car population grows along with the people, the odds of getting into an accident increase exponentially. Even those with spotless records of safe and responsible driving face the risk of other drivers who might not take their responsibilities behind the wheel as seriously.
With Northern Virginia already the most populated and urban area of the state, its only natural that even the most remote sections of the region have more car accidents than anywhere else. According to a report by the Department of Motor Vehicles, our area of the state is just as dangerous as areas just outside of the beltway.

These numbers support the point that driving anywhere for even a short length of time can be a risky business. Thanks to the amazing number of safety advances made in automobiles, the number of fatalities is comparatively low. Improvements in seatbelts, airbags, on-board cameras, and automatic notification of emergency services through Global Positioning Satellite based services like On-Star have made accidents that were almost certainly fatal ten years ago survivable today.
But the technology that enables drivers and passengers to emerge unscathed from any accident hasn’t been invented yet, and it probably won’t be. Traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries still happen with alarming frequency in car accidents, and these are the sort of injuries that irrevocably alter lives.
The costs of a serious injury in a car accident are enormous. There are medical bills, which, if the injury is serious enough, could run into the millions. A permanent spinal or brain injury requires a lifetime of care, not to mention a lifetime of lost wages. The average Virginia family is no more than three paychecks away from financial ruin, and a serious accident can quite easily push them into bankruptcy in a very short period of time. And if the accident happened due to no fault of the victim, a serious miscarriage of justice could occur if the victim doesn’t have legal help.
Car crashes are usually met with the motto "deny, delay, and do not pay" from insurance companies. Even situations where the liability of the other driver is completely obvious can take hours of haggling and mountains of paperwork. If the damage from the wreck is serious, and if the damages include personal injuries, the delay and denial response goes into overdrive.
Insurers go above and beyond the call of duty to avoid paying claims, and use a series of techniques. There are hi-tech solutions for claims denial or inadequate settlements, such as database software that averages out the lowest possible amount for an injury, but some insurers simply play the waiting game, where they delay making a settlement offer until life becomes financially impossible for the victim. Then they offer an amount that is utterly inadequate, counting on the desperation of the victim to accept whatever trifle they offer.
An injury victim has enough to deal with without worrying about bankruptcy. There are the obvious problems of how to deal with the changes that they will be forced to go through. There is the emotional trauma of not being able to walk again, or worse. Having legal representation that understands exactly what your injury has cost you and your family is crucial to getting the compensation needed to rebuild your lives. Having an attorney that understands insurance company tactics is the best and most efficient way to get them to live up to their contractual obligations.
